Digging out
As many of you know, Eye of the Oracle is the first book in my new series, Oracles of Fire, and it’s a prequel to Dragons in our Midst (DIOM). As you read it, you will likely notice a number of differences between this story and those of the four DIOM books. First, Eye of the Oracle (Eye) is more of an epic fantasy. It tracks certain characters and weaves their stories through thousands of years, from near the time of creation through to the time of the DIOM stories.
Second, Eye traces the enduring lives of several characters, weaving the actions into the storyline in a way that explains all the hidden secrets of the entire DIOM series. When the story comes together in the ultimate climax, readers will understand how the theme of trusting in God’s guiding hand has been the major thrust of this book and DIOM.
Finally, this book is considerably longer than any of the DIOM books. Before editing, it stands at over 600 pages. Yet, it is so full of action, intrigue, and adventure, readers will never get bored. Page after page will turn, and readers won’t want to put it down.
Here are a couple of statements from readers of the pre-publication version of the book:
Wow... pure genius! If possible, even better and more
intriguing than the Dragons in our Midst books! I was spellbound the
entire time! On my bookshelf, the books of

This
is a wonderful epic, brimming with great characters and fantastic otherworldly
places. Not just great entertainment, Eye of the Oracle also presents the
spiritual battle between good and evil, but more importantly, it shows the
triumph of faith and obedience to our Creator.
Congratulations on a great story!

If you would like to see me give a talk, go to http://www.lambstv.com and click on channel 21. There are two sessions to watch. In the one labeled “General Assembly,” I am giving the final benediction speech at the 2006 Florida Christian Writers Conference. You may also choose the “Workshop” where you’ll see the workshop that I did on the elements of classical fantasy at the same conference.

Testimony Time: If you would like your testimony included in my newsletter, please let me know how the Dragons in our Midst series has improved your spiritual life. I’ll choose one from the messages I receive during the month. The following is from a psychologist.
I NEVER do
this kind of thing, but I just had to write and communicate my great pleasure,
and my sincere thanks, to you for your "Dragons in our Midst"
books. I have read them all with my 13- year- old son. They are
highly interesting, especially for my son who is still very much into
fantasy. More importantly, they are wonderful illustrations of key truths
involved in the Christian walk and in the knowledge of and battle with
evil. I was especially struck by the clarity with which you convey the
subtle deceitfulness of evil, and of how Satan can tempt so powerfully, in book
3 as Billy & Bonnie traveled through the circles and encountered such along
the way. It was really poignant for me, and not lost on my son,
either. I could go on, but I just want to say "Thanks" for such
a well written series. We were both sorry that book 4 was the "end
of the road." However, I think I understand that a new series is
forthcoming in the fall. We will look forward to it.
